Today was the first day that dine-in was reopened and I really appreciate the effort that went into making that happen. I went with my brother (who is on the spectrum), who really missed being able to go out.
I would like to in particular thank our server David, who did an excellent job keeping a fun and light atmosphere, despite the obvious fact that everyone was clearly working double time to keep up with demand with limited staffing.
It's still the best even though we haven't been for quite some time! Kattie our server was great! She was helpful and very attentive to our needs. I had the Crab Daddy Feast broiler and my wife had the coconut shrimp and fries. I tried one of her shrimp dipped into some kind of pineapple sauce and we both decided that we need to come back again for that shrimp! Well done!!!
Our server, Christine, was amazing. She was prompt and attentive, keeping our drinks full and making sure everything came out in a timely fashion. The food, however, left a lot to be desired. The way the restaurant smelled, I expected flavorful dishes. I ordered grilled shrimp and my mother ordered clam chowder. We split an appetizer, which was by far the best thing we had. My shrimp LOOKED seasoned, but it tasted so bland I almost wondered if the 'seasoning' was spray paint. The rice it came with tasted like Minute Rice, and also had zero flavor. The seasonal vegetable was broccoli. I love broccoli, but it could not save this bland, overpriced joke that someone could have made at home. My mom said her clam chowder tasted like a bag mix. For how much marketing I've seen for this restaurant, I expected something palatable, if not excellent. We loved our waitress, but good service cannot compensate for mediocre, overpriced food.
Having been to many Joe’s around the country, this one stacks up as one of the best! Our bartender Jen took great care of us while we were there. She was always there if we needed something and was super attentive and that makes for a great experience! The food was great as always and having not had the fried clam strips in a long time, they were outstanding!!! All and all a great time at Joe’s in Tempe and we’ll be back the next time that we're in town!
