Skates on the Bay

Skates is the place to go for a romantic day or night. The view of the city skyline and the Golden Gate can be seen from almost anywhere in the restaurant. My fave? Lobster Bisque soup on a cold but sunny day while watching the waves outside my window. Nice!

They managed to find us a table for three without a reservation in about 15 minutes. The wait staff was attentive and helpful. The sushi we ordered as an appetizer was maybe the best part of the meal. The main course were overcooked and fairly sparse for the amount we paid. All in all, while we had a pleasant enough eating experience, the food was overpriced for what it was. Being right on the bay was nice, but we are unlikely to return and pay their prices again for that experience. There are better seafood options in the Bay area, in my opinion.

Skates on the Bay is one of the best restaurants in Berkeley Area. I visited it during night time, but I am sure that the atmosphere during the day time is also very romantic. The place is a bit pricey for the food options provided. But it's very cleaned and tasty. I would recommend to try sea food dishes.

Skates is about the view and the ambiance. The menu offer a wide selection of food which are all good. The wait staff has always been wonderful and attentive. We have always enjoyed our meals here. The production over sunset is fun with all of the staff opening the shades so you can watch it looking out towards the Golden Gate, SF and the Marin headlands. Truly spectacular.
