This is a unpretentious but sophisticated place, seemingly known only to locals, even though it's right next to one of the most famous restaurants in the world. Cesar also has great food. Everything from the squash soup to the lamb to the brussel sprouts to the bread pudding are delicious and will please the palate of most foodies. They also have great drinks, including some non-alcoholic craft beverages. Great spot although a little pricey.
Good tapas and wine spot that also makes a good cocktail. Was most impressed by the brussel sprouts and variety of potatoes tapas. The paella I had was slightly over-seasoned but the octopus and mussels were excellent.
Overall recommended as a solid tapas option in the Berkeley area.
Excellent food, wines, and cocktails. Everything I've ever tried has been great.
This bar restaurant has consistently good food in big enough servings - for tapas - that each plate is satisfying. The flavors are lively, the food comes out fast, and is good quality.
You come here because the bar tenders are awesome and friendly. You come here to meet people and not only make new friends but build community. I don't live in Berkeley so I know that having a bar like this to go to is very special. If I lived in Berkeley I'd visit every night possible. I stayed in town only a week and in that short amount of time came to depend upon the friendliness and welcoming vibe of this place, so much so that now, back at home, I find myself pining a little bit, and wishing very much that my own home town had a place like this.
Great, deep bar with stools. Limited table seating but space is maximized, I don't envy the wait staff having to navigate the tiny pathways holding multiple plates.
Low key, casual dress.
Gets busy on the normal nights, go early (5-6) to get a good seat, but as I said once you're seated the food somehow comes out fast. The staff don't mess around when it comes to taking your order, this is an experienced staff that knows what's what, and they're super friendly even while being efficient.
From the first sip to the last bite, Cesar is tremendous. Small plates with big flavors plus a delicious selection of beverages to savor along the way. A great spot for paella or a variety of other tapas. YUM!
