Evan's American Gourmet Cafe

Food and service was amazing. The meal was fabulous. They even put a candle in our dessert since we were celebrating our anniversary. Will definitely return next time we are in Tahoe.

Beautiful little house. Great chefs. My Caesar salad was wilty, disappointing. The male wait staff didn't seem to have time to clean the table, ask if we wanted wine, or answer menu questions. When I read aloud a description from the menu and asked him a question, He said "you just read the description, you know what's on it", I was surprised at his response and taken aback. The attitude continued throughout the meal, thankful for the female wait staff that picked up the slack. I've been to this restaurant 5-6 times over the years, and have usually had excellent service.
Review of 3 stars based on this most recent experience, otherwise it's been a 5 star place.

I've been eating here since the turn of the century and have never had a meal that wasn't spectacular!

I'm tempted to leave 3 stars, but then I realized that's probably because I'm judging the flavor of their food against their presentation which was an outstanding 10 stars. With the way it looked, I expected better I guess. Because Evan's came so highly recommended, we'll try it again. It may be I just ordered the wrong thing (lobster stuffed salmon) and wasn't a fan. Service was great and we loved the little house ambience.

The food here was absolutely delicious! My husband and I didn't know what to expect when we visited as we googled "Best Restaurants in Lake Tahoe" and Evans came up with such high reviews. We wanted a special night out and this was the perfect place to go! The restaurant itself is small and cozy, making for a tight fit, but the food made up for the close quarters. The waitstaff and the chef were absolutely amazing with catering to my husband's gluten and dairy allergies. There was tons on the menu for him to eat and they were educated and helpful on the topic! They even had dairy-free ice cream for him to have for dessert! That almost never happens. I got the Halibut and the dish itself was a work of art. We loved it so much, that my husband the next day said how he wished he could eat it all over again! Definitely worth the price!
