Phenomenal food, great place to meet new and interesting people!
Wonderful, as always. Been going there for 55 years and we've always appreciated the staff and the food.
First time, Tue July 9, 2019, 12:15 pm, slightly late for lunch. Soup was good even better with addition beans and salsa for more flavor. Salad was over dressed but adequate. Bleu Cheese was mostly gone. Arriving slightly late is a disadvantage because the food is less available if you are late. Following the soup was a tasty Oxtail Stew, which was not on the Tuesday menu. We also had fried sliced Potatoes that were possibly from breakfast and were very good. Red house wine was freely available with your meal. Pork Chops were good, one chop per person was all you got. This is NOT all you can eat. You might be able to get more IF you are pushy with the other diners OR if you are very persistent with the waitperson. This is not fancy food, it's more about decent food in a VERY convivial setting. We had comfortable, free flowing conversation with perfect strangers and have many wonderful memories of their company.
This place is an absolute gem! Everything you eat here is delicious and savory. This James Beard award winning restaurant was opened in the 1880's and will take you back in time. The family style format adds to the uniqueness of the place. A true Bakersfield institution.
Went here for first time last week, accompanied by BF native friends who’ve been eating here “since they were in highchairs” (read: many many many years!). It’s a fixed menu @ a fixed price, Noriega’s was doing prix fixe dining 100 years before it became trendy. Check the website for the meal of the day - there’s a large portion of it: soup, salad, beans, cheese, pickled tongue, fries, etc. that remains the same; the “main courses” are different every day. On Saturday, that was Oxtail Stew and Fried Chicken. Red wine is also at the table
