Tacos de la esquina

Ran into this joint at the side of the road near Bicycle Casino Resort completely by accident, and I was happy we stopped by. The owner was very friendly, giving us recommendation while tending the big spit and flipping fresh tortillas on the grill.

We ordered four tacos, asada and al pastor, just to try the food, and it was mind-blowing. The meat was hot and flavourful, the garnish were refreshing, and the lime gave the right kick. Before long, we ordered another four tacos, as the chicken and brisket had finished cooking, and the second set of tacos were as flavourful as the first.

It is worth mentioning that their tacos may lean more on the expensive side when compared to their peers. However, it is also worth mentioning that between the quality of the food and the passion displayed by the owner, we would gladly pay to enjoy great food, even in humble settings.

Good food delicious

We noticed this new taco stand the other night and decided to try it out. They have a selection of cuts for tacos as well as burritos and mulitas. I tried one of each meat but only the Carne Asada and Al Pastor were decent. The quality of the other meats and flavorings were not that good but perhaps it wasn't a good night in those respects.

The prices are higher in comparison to other taco stands in the area with the Tacos at $2.50 each and Burritos at $10. Though the tacos were on the smaller side. Given that the looming recession has increased prices everywhere I suppose it is not something we can complain about but as I mentioned earlier other taco stands are between $1.50 to $2.00 per taco. If you're feeding a few folks those 50 cent savings will add up.

If you want to support a small business then give them a shot but don't expect too much.

If you prefer a higher quality taco at a better price, drive out to Tacos el Gavilan on Florence and Paramount or drive around to see if there are any other taco stands with better prices and better food.
