When it's on, the food is deserving of 4 stars.
When it's off, it's more a 2 star.
An average of 3 stars is a little generous, but there are some good spots.
The first time, we ordered stinky tofu ($6.99 for 3 pieces is a little expensive), Taiwanese big fried chicken steak, and the MJ selected steak. Stinky tofu was just like Taiwan, with a healthy heaping of pickled vegetables. Fried chicken steak was amazing, and the steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare.
We were also surprised by a promotion where if you spend $10 minimum per person, you get a bowl to all-you-can-eat oden (fried tofu, fish cake, daikon, seaweed, corn), tea eggs, corn potage, and yam porridge. The server told us it's an ongoing promotion from 5:30-7:30p 7 days a week.
We were so impressed by the experience that I brought my mom, who grew up in Taiwan, to try for a taste of home. We ahead and assured the oden promotion was still on, and the server let us know that it starts at 6pm. Unfortunately, the second experience was quite different. The stinky tofu was undercooked and did not taste like the first time. The steak was overcooked and tougher than a rock. They replaced the steak with chicken. The oden bowl never came until we asked for it when it was almost 7pm, and still the oden was not hot or even lukewarm.
Without prompting, they gave us 10% off the bill. Though it was a kind gesture, it was clear they understood we were unhappy with the meal. I would have much preferred a consistent experience.
3 stars, but I wouldn't come back.
I love the variety of drinks they offer here. The food is great for a quick bite with family or a date. Service is good all staff is very attentive.
It opens late and provides decent Taiwanese food, sweets, deserts, and drinks (bubble tea, healthy tea, icy slash...etc). Tried the signature beef tongue over
rice. The beef tongue was just okay. Its a bit old and difficult to chew.
Good scenery and food and drink tasted fantastic. I recommend the beef tongue plate!
The beef stew noodle soup was excellent. The portion size was generous. We ordered honey milk green tea in XL size. Staff was able to split in 2 regular size cup to share because the glass was huge. Staffs were friendly and attentive, may be it was a light Monday lunch.
