Super clean. Spamusubi was served steaming hot. Chicken bowl was very good too. Those and a diet coke was $22.50 so a little more than I expected to pay for lunch but portions were decent size. I didn't see anything vegetarian on the menu, but it's a grill place. That may be a plus for some folks.
I visited back in January 2024 when they had only been open for a few months. I was here quite early, just after they opened for the day. Maybe that had to do with my not-so-great experience. It was empty inside.
I stopped by to get food to-go. The lady who took my order was nice, but it felt like the kitchen wasn't ready. I got the Hawaiian BBQ chicken plate with rice and mac. The chicken was so underwhelming to the point of disappointment. It felt almost rubbery and lacked flavor. The mac was also too sweet.
By far the best Hawaiian food I’ve had (for quick service style restaurants) in a very long time! I ordered our favorite go-to, the Katsu Chicken plate, and took a risk on the BBQ Chicken plate just for fun. Both came we two sides and I chose the macaroni salad and white rice for both.
First, the Katsu chicken. I’ve had this dish 50 times at other places like Ono Hawaii and have always enjoyed it. THIS Katsu chicken was soooo much better than anything else I’ve had. It was so light and crispy on the outside, and so very tender and juicy on the inside - no overly fried and hard bits like I’m used to seeing at other places. It makes me wonder now if those other places are like Taco Bell and I’ve finally just now been treated to an authentic abuelita’s Mexican home cooking! It has definitely ruined all other Katsu chicken for me now, I’m afraid.
Now on to the BBQ Chicken plate… wow! Just wow. I usually hesitate to order anything BBQ-y because of all the sugary sauces, but my husband usually likes it so thought I’d give it a go. IT WAS AMAZING. So tender and just with the perfect amount of char-grilled Smokey flavor… and no sauce at all! They did have a thing of House Special Sauce (which I took 2 small to-go containers of) which was thin and super tasty, but the chicken hardly needed it so it was nice to just have it available on the side.
The macaroni salad was also an upgraded version of other places I’ve had (though I admit I do still like the other kind too) and the rice was moist and fluffy.
I’ve lived in the area for over 12 year and this location has changed several times, so I’m excited that there is finally a restaurant I hope stays here forever!! We will be back very soon I’m sure!
So this little place is decorated in light blue playing Hawaiian music. It isn’t a cafeteria style place so be prepared to wait for your order; however, the food is delicious. We ordered the chicken and ribs meals. There is plenty of meat per serving and both were very tender. The meals also included rice with either greens or macaroni salad. I really enjoy NO tuna in the macaroni and the food wasn’t fried. There is no drink fountain, only cans which is a bummer as I like ice in my drink. The staff was very nice and brings you your food when you dine in. I ordered a meal to go and will surely eat here again.
I received a Yelp recommendation and reviewed their page, the food looked great so decided to stop in.
I placed my ordered but wanted to try the Kalbi Beef BBQ & Hawaiian BBQ Chicken. But they don't have a combination plate so I settled with ordering the Kalbi. Not having a combination plate was a bit disappointing because I was told that I would have to order an additional plate to get both.
I then sat down and waited for my food, and waited, and waited, and waited!! One half hour passed and my food wasn't ready and others that came in after me were getting their food. I finally addressed the person behind the counter to get an update on my food and get an explanation why people were getting their food. They didn't have an explanation but I wasn't the only person irate by this time!! There were other paying clients that were very upset too!
I don't know who owns this place but there were three young adults running the restaurant tonight. They don't have a clue and unfortunately are operating this place like chickens without heads! This needs to change or this place will not last, trust me! Waiting 1/2 for food with out an explanation is totally unacceptable, this place is poorly manage, and totally unorganized.
Now for the food, this would probably have been a 3 or 4 star review because the food is very good, the Kalbi was full of flavors and coupled with the macaroni salad, and rice. The entire plate was delicious and Kalbi BBQ melted in my mouth!
Will I come back? Maybe! I'll probably order ahead because 1/2 really killed it for me!!
