soh grill house is the only korean restaurant where we can have nice korean barbecue in old pasadena. even though the price is not cheap, it is worth spending on those delicious meat.
Higher-end KBBQ that's a great addition to the Pasadena restaurant scene! I've been meaning to try Soh Grill House ever since they opened but just never got around to it with Baekjeong literally only 4 blocks away from home in Temple City. Funny thing is my friends and I originally planned to go to Baekjeong but I got that two days ago so we ended up coming to Soh hah...
I'm a huge fan of korean bbq and this place impressed me from interior design to service to food. The interior design is atypical of the usual kbbq spots. I'm talking light wood and spacious, white stone countertops. Very clean and modern. The restaurant is well ventilated and the service was good too. I feel like kbbq restaurants are usually understaffed and hectic, but it was very easy to flag down a waitress or a busboy for more water/sides.
We ordered beef belly, beef tongue, seasoned boneless short rib, pork belly, and beef carpaccio!! The beef tongue was great and the portion was very generous (I counted 16 pieces total). Short rib was marinated very well and I couldn't stop myself from picking off the burnt pieces of garlic on the grill when we were done eating. I was also surprised that beef belly was on the menu since I feel like that's more of a lowkey goodie (that isn't offered as frequently as pork belly). Beef carpaccio was also unexpected and eating it brought back memories of Korea :)
Definitely not a place to go if you're on a budget (the bill came out to be $50/person), but overall a very good dining experience and I will be coming back!
Great cuts of meat and the pickles were delicious! Would have liked to cook my own meat though...
Much better when it's full, because otherwise the accoustics can make conversation difficult. Good is delicious and the staff is friendly and helpful. If you're not familiar with the cuisine, do ask questions!
Very decent Korean food for Pasadena. Surprised it’s so good. I’ll be back.
