The Rusty Monk

Nice eatery/pub in uptown Whittier. Very good food. Good prices for quantity. Service needs improvement.
We arrived in early evening on the weekend. We had an appetizer, non-alcoholic drinks, and a couple of meals among the group.
We were seated pretty quickly. They were quite crowded...nearly all the booths and tables were filled.
Honestly, the only downfall was the service. It took a long time from the time we ordered drinks to actually get them. Drinks were not refilled and when we asked for refills, this also took forever. Some of the soda options were unavailable, so our non-alcoholic drink options were very limited. When they brought our meals, they originally tried to give us two plates that were not ours, and when those plates came out again, one of those was still not correct. (And we didnt ask for any special alterations to the meals, we ordered straight from the menu without any modifications, so not quite sure why all the wrong orders.) Then the bill had the wrong orders at the end of the night. Perhaps they were understaffed in the kitchen or could have used an extra hand on the floor. There didn't seem to be a manager in sight. The two servers were hustling and very polite, just hard to capture their attention and waiting for things such as silverware, refills, and so on was a bit frustrating.
Because we enjoyed the food and other items on the menu piqued our interest, we may come back again. That being said, if the service is always like this, I'm sorry to say I don't think most patrons are likely to be return customers.
Hoping for a better experience next time.

Good place to grab dinner. Varied menu items. Old world ambience with rustic charm. Fun European fare. Decent beer selection. Go for food, return for the cozy vibe.

Nice selection of beers. Appetizer quality and quantity was nice and for sure affordable. The staff was pleasant and quite friendly. I'll be back for sure.

I'd describe the decor in the Monk as "eclectic" at the very least. I'm not sure whether I like it or not.
The variety of food choices was great, the food itself was very good (the beer cheese is amazing), and the beer menu was exquisite.
Prices were reasonable and the presentation of the dishes was great.
There was some event running when we went and parking was atrocious.
All in all it was a nice experience but I wouldn't make it a regular thing.
