This was my first experience in Mendocino and at Stanford Inn by the Sea. My fiancée and I also had our elopement ceremony here in the garden. Our officiant Sid shared beautiful sentiments and provided humor to the ceremony. After we had our dinner at the Ravens Restaurant. I cannot recommend this place enough for those who look to stay at resorts that provide luxury with an impactful mission. Jeff and Joan Stanford have created something magical with this resort, from the sustainable, organic, local and delicious all plant-based cuisine, to the beautiful gardens and grounds. The entire staff were attentive and a pleasure to speak with. Our suite was perfect, bed was very comfortable, shower had plenty of hot water and good water pressure. The views of the gardens, trees and ocean were magnificent from our balcony. My wife and I cannot wait to stay here again and are planning a return as I write this. If you are someone like me who strives to use their money to support local and people who share similar values as yourself, there is no better place in all Northern California than the Stanford Inn by the Sea.

Beautiful hotel and grounds. The rooms have balconies, many with Ocean views. They have a full garden and a farm with rescue llamas and donkeys. There is kayak and bicycle store on site.
The only issue to consider is the Raven restaurant where breakfast is considered. They require struct timing fir seatings and the menu is all vegan. If you are comfortable with this type of food, then it is fine. If you are not, the dishes are challenging as they do not taste like regular named dishes. Even the pancakes and waffles are different.

Beautiful gardens and location. Enjoyed walking the gardens in Spring time.

Working fireplace is nice to have during cold nights.

Rooms are all wood, typical for Northern California rural hotels.

    Vegan restaurant is tasty

My husband and I went here for our honeymoon and it was absolutely amazing. We did the "Fall in Love with Life Package" and it was so worth it. The vegan cooking class and the healthy living class taught us so much about vegan eating and cooking---and we thought that we knew a lot! The creative playshop made us feel like kids again and Joan made us feel so comfortable. We even have our creations framed in our home! On our canoe trip, we saw seals, otters, and several other wildlife! It was simply incredible. Every night we were treated to a 3-course meal and everything was absolutely delicious. We were able to try almost everything on the dinner menu and there wasn't a dish that we didn't like! We also loved the breakfasts. The room that we stayed in had a beautiful view of the gardens and the ocean in the distance. We used the cozy fireplace every night and they provide wood for you outside the rooms. We can't say enough good things about our trip and would recommend it to anyone!

Inviting, warm and meticulously well kept inn. Wood burning fireplaces everywhere with massage, cooking classes and yoga on site. Seriously good vibes here. Loved all of my stays. Very accommodating and friendly staff. oh.. and the wonderful covered pool and hot tub. Worth every penny and then some.
