We had a huge group of 54 people for dinner. We were celebrating our Grandmother's 85 Birthday party. This Claim Jumper was more than accommodating! They have a side room, looks like an add on patio area, but it is fully enclosed, heated and A/c ducted and it is a great big room to be able to seat a lot of people. It is separated from the main restaurant with 2 doors so noise is no issue. It's great for meeting or big gatherings like ours.
Our server was awesome. There were no issues with our orders and the food came out super quick and was all hot. I was expecting there to be some sort of issue since we had such a large group. They allowed us to split checks for individual families, which made it very convenient. Were were there for about 4 hours. We did not feel rushed in any way.
We will be sure to use claim Jumper again got our large gatherings. If you need a place for a big group, or just need a place to eat for two. Be sure to try out the Claim Jumper on Santa Margarita!
I'm not sure why a couple of Claim Jumpers in Orange County failed. Ours in Irvine closed a while ago, and the one in Santa Ana closed a year or so ago. But our kids live in Lake Forest, so the one in Mission Viejo is a go-to place for celebrations, like my birthday. The service was fantastic and the food is always so abundant. Everybody gets plenty to eat and the leftovers make a great lunch the next day.
I stopped in with friends for a drink at the bar and the place was not crowded but the bartenders were nice and made awesome drinks. The restaurant seemed pretty crowded despite the bar being empty. This does not appear to be the place to come to if you want a crowded social scene but is great to pop in with friends and have a few drinks.
Still an American dining institution, even after the change of ownership a while back and a minor decline in quality and success. I recommend happy hour (which is all day on weekends) due to some very reasonably priced menu options available. Desserts are great but who has room for an 'I Declare' when you have just consumed an 'Ore Cart'. I usually go for the meatloaf and potato cheese soup.
