El zarandeado sea food

My mom recommended this place since she is new to San Juan Capistrano and wanted to have a special outing after we drove down from LA. So glad we came here for lunch: Pescado Zarandeado (snook) is pretty hard to find in Los Angeles, let alone Orange County . A specialty of the Nayarit region, it's a fantastic white fleshed fish butterflied and seared. The Chef uses his own sauce recipe and the result is one of the richest versions of the dish I've ever had. The aguachile verde was also excellent, very fresh shrimp, scallop and pulpo that was hard to stop eating. Not inexpensive but very generous portions for explosive flavors not common to most mariscos places. Very happy with our experience here, will be back again to try more Guadalajaran and Nayarit dishes.

The wife saw El Zarandeado very positively mentioned on one of the local sites so we decided to give it a try. So very glad we did. The place is clean and tastefully decorated. The service was just excellent. I've traveled Mexico's west coast quite a bit and I love a good seafood cocktail. This place is the real deal. Best Mixto Cocktail Ever ! Wifey loved her Aguachiles Scallops. Finally! A first class mariscos spot in south OC. No more driving to Santa Ana for our seafood fix. Can't wait to go back.

A well needed Mexican Sea Food Restaurant in South OC. Clean and inviting. Food is fresh and authentic. Highly recommend it.

We tried El Zarandeado tonight for the first time. Gaspar and his family are so friendly and very nice. The food is excellent. The flavors are very complex and delicious. I had the Tres Amigos plate with a seafood enchilada, a shrimp chile relleno and a marlin crispy flat taco. My husband had the enchilada plate with rice and beans. Everything was fantastic and we look forward to returning to try other things on the menu. If you like elevated, not-your-typical Mexican food, you will LOVE this nice restaurant. The decor is modern minimalist and the service could not be better. What a great dining experience!
