Shige Sushi

It was delicious...Will deffanately be back....

The best sushi ever. We have been having his food for at least 38-40 years. Always fresh and delicious.

Married to a Japanese woman and spent many years in Japan and this is the best real Japanese food in Sacramento. Always happy with the quality and the service.

My wife and I were interested in Shige Sushi after hearing that Lou (of the restaurant formerly known as Lou's Sushi, in midtown) had begun working there. We enjoyed Lou's, and wanted to see how things were going at Shige, so we made the drive up there to find out.

We ordered miso soup, the chirashi, and a few rolls. The food was beautifully prepared and very tasty. Based on just the food, this would be an easy 5 star review. Unfortunately, the service was not great.

After almost being turned away, we lucked out and got a table when another guest left. We spent a long time (at least 30 minutes) waiting for our order to be taken. At one point, the girl who brought our water to us began taking our order, then got chewed out by another member of the staff - in front of us! - and we were left waiting for someone to take our order again. When our food was ready, we watched it sit on the side of the bar for 15 minutes, because the miso hadn't been served yet.

Shige is not a large place - it has maybe 10 tables - but it was hard not to feel ignored during all this.

It's extra frustrating because the food was prepared in a timely manner, and it was really good. I'd love to have it again. I'm just not sure if I want to endure the service there for it, which is a shame.

Ocean trout nigiri is my favorite here. I love being able to do omakase! Plenty of sake options as well!
