The Back Abbey

Pretzels and burgers are awesome! Old fashioned cocktail is spot on, and pretty good Belgian beer selections. Nice to have a restaurant with different flavors and beverage options in a world that has become too "cookie cutter".

Service is nice and friendly. Food is high priced and very bland tasting. While the fries were fried to perfection they had no salt. The fried fish was unsalted too with no flavor. Food was cooked good just flavorless. The cocktail was on the pricey side at $15 a cup but it was tasty. My whole meal cost $40 not including tip.

It is great having another Back Abbey and this one is closer than the excellent store in Claremont.
Being a new store I am thrilled to try it out and it is not bad however there is room for improvement.
First don't drink the water until they get a filter. Don't drink the coffee until they learn to make it. The hamburger was a dry.
All of this will improve and I look forward to giving this store five stars :)
And it is getting better :)

Update on my 1 star review. I was contacted by the owner the night of our dinner experience. He apologized and made the situation right. He assured me that the appropriate people had been talked to and that kind of experience was unacceptable and would not happen again. I hope to go back at some point and be able to leave a 5 star review in the future.

Just about everything that could have gone wrong did. For starters, the Service was absolutely horrible. The manager took our order and forgot to submit it to the kitchen. (The table that sat 30 minutes after us had their appetizers and food before we even got our one appetizer pretzel). Our waitress came by and asked how we were doing. I asked for more water and she said okay and promptly forgot about it as she went to other tables. We finally got our pretzel (an hour after we sat down) Then a second pretzel showed up…we told the waiter maybe the manager sent it because we’ve already been waiting an hour for our food, because he forgot to submit our order. He said he probably got the wrong table and took it away (when the bill came we actually got charged for 2 pretzels and had to get it corrected). Once the food came, the fish and chips were over cooked, the garden grilled sandwich did not come on a French roll as it was ordered, the burger was under cooked for what it was ordered and cold by the time I got it.

Let’s not talk about the mandatory “large party” tip for 5 people. Like what the heck?!?!

We will never be going back there…for as many words as I spoke here, I’m at a loss for words.
