I had the pleasure of eating at a new restaurant, new to me at least. This restaurant is in the building that housed the now defunct Green House restaurant. Then Sergio's place.
DO NOT confuse "The Taco Hut" with Sergio's. When I looked up Taco Hut, I saw it combined/confused by Uber, Door Dash etc.
I pulled up and placed my order. It was nice to have a person taking my order that knew the menu and was understandable as the there was no static at the ordering station.
The menu is not as cumbersome and does not contain superfluous items say a Jack in the Box menu has which would make it hard to navigate.
This menu is full, with enough items to appease all types of appetites.
I pulled up and was greeted by a very nice man, Michael. I told him welcome to Yucaipa and he said "well welcome to Taco Hut" and informed me that they had been there for a while. He also, told me that their beef is all Angus and that their vegetables are fresh daily. The line might be a little longer, but the food is fresh. Michael and I talked for a few moments until a car came up behind. I may have made a new friend.
I came home and we ate the dinner. The tacos were not little dinky things like Rosie's. Not loaded with grease like Cuca's. The hard shells were light and flaky, the meat you can tell was oven baked as the outer portion was brown, not tan. This is not dripping wet pressure-cooked meat. Fresh tomatoes, lettuce and white cheese. The shredded beef hard taco has great flavor, needing a little salt (for me, but would perfect for my wife). And the red salsa has a wonderful flavor, and the heat slowly up on you. This salsa is unlike any other here in Yucaipa. It is definately homemade. We also had the green salsa for the tacos, and it has a really nice flavor and not too hot. AND, they are not chintzy with the salsa.
I had the cheese enchilada plate. Enchiladas are really tasty and the refries have a nice full flavor. The dinners are served in aluminum trays with lids crimped on which keeps them from leaking and keeping the food hotter longer.
Last, we had a carne asada burrito. The menu has the burrito as being carne asada, beans, rice, tomatoes, onion and cilantro. I am old school and like my asada just beef and cheese. I asked to hold the rice and beans. The burrito came tightly, neatly wrapped and the size the other local restaurants serve with rice and beans. With that red sauce, darn good.
So, don't pass this restaurant by. If I had to wager, this is the restaurant that will grow into a full-blown sit-down restaurant.
Stop by and say hi to Michael and that Mark sent you.
