Neat Underground

Neat Underground is one of the few restaurants that I return to again and again in the ever-changing San Diego food scene. It's a hidden gem that pops up in the cozy/chill covered patio space at the Redhouse Kitchen in IB on the weekends. Chef Alynn creates amazing flavor combos with fresh, local ingredients from Dickenson farm, which she changes up on a monthly basis. Beautifully plated and perfectly cooked, creative food takes time, so order some beverages, enjoy the addictive complimentary popcorn and your table-mates company (instead of your phone) while your dishes come out. Some of my all time favorites include the bacon-wrapped mascarpone filled dates with chocolate sauce, the always changing and interesting mystery burger, the succulent short rib and gnocchi with figs. In a time when more and more experiences are "curated" or engineered to be Insta-worthy, Neat Underground stands the test of time by providing original, creative, delicious food along with attentive and charming service in a unique space.

The singular waitress and chef are a two person powerhouse that defy all expectations to provide a comfortable and incredible meal when they take over the Red House Kitchen space. The first bite of every dish I've had here has been a (literally) breathtaking experience and each bite that follows is a gift. This pop-up is truly a labor of love that shows in the care put into the food and toward the guests. I'm so proud to supprt this local business!

Chef Alynn at Neat Underground is the best! Always delicious, richly flavored foods.. my husband and I go there often. The beet terrine, the pot roast, the white fish, pork chops, pastas, and the mystery burgers, are all to die for. The menu changes monthly so the is always something wonderful to discover and devour.

This incredibly creative food experience offers something new every time you visit. With a new menu every month featuring carnivore, vegi, and vegan options, there's always something for everyone. My personal favorite is the ever changing mystery burger. Beware, it is not for the picky eaters. This dish is for adventurous foodies only. Absolutely worth the trip.

I don't know where to begin everything was incredible staff and food. They provide a homemade butter garlic popcorn while you wait. They have this bread and butter that is absolutely original and creative. I am originally from NY and this is the ONLY place anywhere out here that has salt potatos let alone AUTHENTIC. They have specials everyday and I had there fresh yellow fin tuna dish absolutely to die for!!! Their restrooms are immaculate and the place has such a cozy feel! Everyone is welcomed and they make you feel right at home I can't wait to post pics!! WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!
