Dukes Old Fashioned Onion Burgers

Food is one of the most impulsive actions we take each day. Unless you've already planned your dinner and such, your impulses may be shadowed by your discipline.

We went to Duke's on an impulse when I saw a friend's post from a recent visit. While the concept of onion burgers is not new, I still wanted to try this place.

The last time I had a burger this good was a few years back in the now closed Whisk N' Ladle in La Jolla. That burger reigns supreme as the best San Diego burger. Duke's was impressive. The single was more than enough to satisfy. The burger comes with the traditional toppings. I added bacon to mine and we ordered the largest order of chili cheese fries ever. Our bill was a reasonable $35 for two burgers, fries and fountain drinks. This was a great burger at a great price. They have a double and even a triple but I found a single to be more filling than a double double at In N' Out.

There was plenty of parking and seating and the location is open up late (10PM) a great value for such a good product. Give them a try.

Finally made it today and absolutely 5 stars. Food was so fresh and good. Big portions but not too high of prices. You definitely get what you pay for and then some. Also love that they don't limit you on toppings. I've been to a lot of burger places that look at you crazy if you want to modify their burger. Will be back!

I got the double patty just cheese. Never had an onion burger before, but saw it on a youtube video from a popular chef. This was very good and i don't doubt its authenticity, but i thought i would taste more onion for its namesake theme. Fries were good and hefty portion. The spicy ketchup was also a nice twist.

Went there this past Saturday. We ordered two of the single burgers and one order of fries to share. Fantastic burger! The jalepenos had a little heat which was great. Be warned on the fries. The order easily was enough for 2 people if not 3. Would definitely come back and told a few friends who are planning on trying it out this week.

Wow! If you love onions on your burger, you’re gonna really like this place. Great toppings and high quality meat, you’ll be surprised how fast you can eat one of these huge burgers. Fries are pretty good, my only recommendation to management would be to include more of the crispy onions and jalapeños because they’re really good.

Please bring back the onion loaf that was originally on the menu, your onions are great and I’d love to try that!
