I'd heard about Rocky's burgers for several years and have long been overdue to try it out. I am happy to say that it is hands down the best "classic" burger I've ever had. In my life.
The pub is very much an old-school pub, and I mean this in the best way possible. It's cash only, first come first serve seating, pay after you eat, orders are literally written on sticky notes, and there's a good amount of regulars (which is always a great sign). While I love trendy places, something about dingey, old-school bars really allow you to just relax and focus on the conversation and food.
The burger is so simple but done SO right. The bun is toasty on the inside, and the patty is thick and juicy with a perfect char. It's deceivingly simple, but crafted perfectly. I got the 1/2 lb patty, but moving forward would probably do the 1/3 lb since the 1/2 lb had me struggling towards the end. This is a MUST-TRY for everyone living in San Diego.
Pro tip: remove the paper, burger, and fries from the basket. That's how the regulars do it.
Rocky's is a little hole in the wall (seating is limited so expect to cozy up next to your neighbor while waiting and eating) beach burger shack, and it's amazing! Since it's a pub it is for ages 21+, in addition to being a cash only bar. We got the lunch special (1/3 cheeseburger, fries, and a drink for ~$15). The burger was juicy, the bun was toasted perfectly, and the toppings were fresh. The also offer some hot peppers you can add at your leisure.
One of the best burgers I’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying. They have been there forever and the menu has always been the same . Beyond simple menu with the most delicious results . Burgers . Burgers with cheese . Beer. What else can you ask for ? There is always a wait but it’s always worth it . If you are only in town for a few days this is a must try . It’s cheap , it’s easy , and it’s delicious. You might wait a half hour for your burger and there might not be anywhere to sit down but you will still have one of the best experiences you’ve ever had. 21 and up only as it is a bar . Pro tip : you can order food to go and pick it up but just remember it’s won’t be the same as going in and getting it . Only order to go as a last resort but don’t forget it’s an option .
A San Diego institution and still my favorite burger after 15 years living here. Pretty simple and consistent no non-sense burger. The ingredients taste fresh and the patty is medium rare, flavorful and juicy. The fries are also very good. Don’t think you can find a better burger for this price.
One of the best burgers anywhere! They slow cook the meat and it is Juicy and Delicious! Good fries as well. It is a beer and wine bar known for its incredible Burgers. Very small. Probably hold 50 people. Don't go there if you were expecting a quick Burger as it takes 20 to 30 minutes to come out. Well worth the wait though.
