I was unsure of the experience I would have based on the reviews of slow service and lukewarm food. However none of this happened! Party of 3 got seated immediately at 10:30am on Sunday. Our waitress appeared quickly and we put in out food and drink order. The Creamsicle drink was delish! Potato croquettes, quiche, candied pork belly, tiramusu french toast, friends with benedicts were all very good and flavorful. While everything did not come out together, it did come out hot! Another bonus was the banging DJ. Music wasn't too loud and was able to talk with my gang and dance in my seat. I definitely want to go back and again and have every plate I order to myself lol.
This place was outrageously good! Unfortunately, the first time we went happens to be their last day of business. I'm not sure why they had to close the restaurant, but hopefully either for relocating purposes or turning into a new restaurant. Will be following to see their next step. Food was tapas American style. Wagyu chicken steak, candied pork belly bacon, chicken and waffle, avocado toast, and short ribs grilled sandwich with a side of white peach mimosa. 🤌🤌🤌 Everything was delicious. Loved our waitress Erin too. She's so lively and awesome.
My family and I stopped in here for breakfast today and the food did not disappoint. We split a few things and all of them were great. The lobster Benedict and avocado toast were definitely top notch.
The one thing that kept this from being a 5 star review was that the service was very slow. The one Waiter was doing the entire front of house by himself and it seemed like there was only one cook. The waiter himself apologized for the longer than expected wait time and was a pleasure to deal with. With a few more FOH and cooks this could definitely be a 5 star place.
This is a really cool breakfast/brunch/lunch spot. The food was really good. They serve tapa style for sharing.. The portions are pretty small. Parking is street parking so be prepared for that. We enjoyed ourselves.
We were on our way to Downtown SD for the commencement ceremony but had not had breakfast yet. Yelped at a location on the way and called an audible. Hen House is a very trendy and very boutique cafe. Would love to go back and test the menu and service. We started feeling the stress of getting to the e ceremony so I ask our server if they could hurry. We ate fast and I didn’t take complimentary pictures of the food. My aunt and uncle are not food adventurous so there was another risk. I ordered the quail egg hamburger sliders, absolutely GREAT! Wifey enjoyed the quiche. My picky daughter raved about Corned beef and potatoes. My aunt loved the avocado toast enjoying the balsamic drizzle. She said she learned what is good avo toast. The food is served tapas style which is smaller plates intended to be shared (or not) and may not come out of the kitchen all at once. The staff was very empathetic to our stressors. The plates came out pretty much at the same time, it was very tasty - Thank You, we made it to the ceremony on time and I added The Hen House to my go-to list when in San Diego.
