Gooseberries kafe

This little cafe beneath the Abpópa hotel is really nice! They have a wide variety of coffee drinks, wine, and beer. They also offer numerous sandwiches and small plates. The portobello burger, lentil soup, and pasta salad were all super fresh and tasty. The bread that came with the lentil soup was really nice too.

Atmosphere and service are hard to beat, as you’re situated in a small oasis beneath the hotel with couches and other seating. There is a small record store there, and though you’re just off of 4th Ave, it feels much more secluded than you’d think.

SO FREAKING DELICIOUS!!! Lee and his partner are doing amazing things here. If you’re staying at the hotel, please do yourself a favor and try this place out the minute you check in. The avocado toast is so so yummy and they do coffee right!!! I had the lavender fog and a shot of espresso.

Family run cafe that has a lot of heart. We had the acai bowl which was fresh, beautiful and the right amount of sweet, as well as the egg sandwich. The sandwich was DELISH with a homemade flaky biscuit. All their pastries are home made and we highly recommend the brown butter chocolate chip cookies. The dirty chai was perfectly spicy. The owners were so sweet, and we really enjoyed our conversation with them, with personal recs about the area as well as making us feel at home. Will come back the next time we’re in SD ❤️

Hidden gem!
We really enjoyed the French toast and their egg-n-biscuit. Their make fresh pastries and their coffee was great. Overall a nice “bistro” like style restaurant owned by a family. The owner was friendly and so was his son. We’re looking forward to returning to try their lunch/salads. Oh, you have to try the RAF. I need to find a photo but wow!!

This place is just great! We found their chocolate chip cookies with brown butter and they’re an instant favorite.

The owners and people that work here are the best, so kind and happy to serve. The breakfast biscuit sandwich was delicious. Finally someone in San Diego knows how to make a proper flaky biscuit; not too dense, moist, and filled with flavor.

The outdoor seating area is comfortable and spacious. Check them out!
