So I have been wanting to try this place for a while as good BBQ is impossible to find in SoCal. The Downtown Vista sit down restaurant is closer and open later so I went there even though I was just buying a pound of Brisket to go. If you do the same, be prepared to pay $4 extra for the higher overheard location...I get it. Although I did not use take up or dirty a table or the time of wait staff, but still I get it. I spoke to the Boss man...nice guy even though I was being a little difficult...Im just poor so it was already a splurge...I usually BBQ myself (how I combat the lack of good Q!) but my kamado lid hinge is giving me trouble...but now about the the Brisket. The meat is super high quality. It is juicy and flavorful and better than anything you can get in SoCal outside my backyard. The rub is a bit peppery which will please the Texas folks. I forgot to get some of their sauce to try, but I had some Gates and the Brisket is plenty good to eat without sauce too if that's how you roll. Brisket is BBQ king so if you are feeling like ribs, pulled pork or Chicken, I am positive these lesser meats will be equally as scrumptious.

So...if you are on the fence about trying this place, Jump! These folks are making legit Que and are good people. Downtown Vista is a pretty cool place if you have not been there...The rest of the menu has lots of delicious sounding items so everyone will be able to get some tasty grub. Belching Beaver is across the street and a couple beers there followed by some legit BBQ would make a heck of an evening.
Too bad not open Sunday, but such is North County for some reason.

OMG. The tri-tip melts in your mouth, even without the BBQ sauce. Plus, this place is in the gas station. Service is really quick and staff are knowledgeable and friendly. I ordered a bundle, so I got a pound of meat (which I'm not thinking isn't enough), 4 buns, 2 large sides, and peach cobbler. Did I mention the tri-tip? OMG.

This is one of my absolute FAVORITE places to eat. In all of the World nothing can compete with the brisket they serve. Mmmmm! It's okay to be a bit skeptical about a delicious BBQ inside a random Chevron gas station in Vista; I definitely was. I try to treat myself at least once a month with the 2 meat plate and some homemade peach cobbler. Brisket and tri-tip with baked beans & mac and cheese-Get in my Belly! I like that I am supporting local people and you can tell these folks care about what they do.
