Food was decent. Not as good as the old Shanghai Dumpling King or Shanghai House down the street but still good. Used a lot of cabbage. Service is much better here than Shanghai House. Both in speed and friendliness.
Get the Shanghai Pork Soup Dumplings and the Taiwan Pork Belly Bao. Both are phenomenal.
Note to owners: I couldn't get phone verification to work with online ordering and your phone number doesn't seem to work. I'd like to call for pickup.
The small restaurant has been redecorated. Gone are the greasy walls and the seats you could stick to. In their place is an open, inviting space. Important, the dumplings are still fantastic. Same goes for the braised vegetables. The wait staff is excellent and very attentive. Some of the best dumplings in the Bay Area. Bar none.
Stop by the old Shanghai Dumpling King after the museum ... and it was gone!
After checking 3 times to be sure I was in the right spot, I got over the shock, and decided to pop in.
They changed the name and the menu, renovated and painted the place
The young guy running the place I remembered ....he said it was the same place.
Well the XLB are now called Juicy Dumplings, and they were juicy but had no soup, which I wanted, so I wasn't thrilled.
Got the Pork Belly Bao and I gotta say they were close to perfect, an interested blend of spices and flavors.
But I was sad the old place was gone.
