John's has been around forever, and there is definitely a reason why... good find, nice quiet environment... the owner recently passed which is sad, but it seems like whoever took over is keeping the place up to standard. I've had some mixed dishes here, but most of their stuff great!
Nice intimate scene..lighted by tea candles.
RSVP, but, if tables avail, can be seated with out reservations.
Service....just,. ok.. can be more attentive to patrons desire.
Food need to be more seasoned with flavor and NOT overcooked( Steak dish )
I had the Sam Spade Lamp Chops, very health servings.
Everyone at table tasted a lamp chop- it was thumps up.

Met a friend for dinner here when I was in town for a conference and wasn’t expecting much considering the outside. The place was packed, as was expected, but we sat at then bar for a bit waiting on our table and were very quickly served. When we were seated the service was prompt and polite. We both had the filet - it was cooked perfectly. Absolutely enjoyed the whole experience. Make reservations!
I took out a friend from out of town. We ate in the second floor. Excellent service, steak, salads, and halibut. Good ambience, good price performer. I left feeling very satisfied in my belly and heart.
Wow, the history here! From the Maltese Falcon to Hillary Clinton there have been stars and the famous all here. The vibe is great with 3 levels of dining. Friendly staff managing a busy bustling restaurant. Food is good but not gourmet. Martinis just perfect. See the actual Falcon on the second floor next to an Emmy Statue. Live piano music on the 2nd floor was great! The atmosphere is so worth it!
