I liked the live jazz, beautiful atmosphere, but I did not like the shared men/women restroom. Whose idea was that anyway?
It's a beautiful space with great music and cocktails. I loved the relaxed vibe. Lots of people were dancing on a Monday night, which definitely added to the vibe
Very laid back bar with comfort food, and good cocktails. The music is usually top notch
I have been dropping in to Mr. Tipple's to hear Jazz whenever I am in town; I've been maybe a dozen times. As many reviewers have noted, this is probably the only place in San Francisco where you can hear live Jazz, without a cover charge, seven days a week. All genres can be heard here: be-bop, Gypsy Jazz, ensemble swing. I love the variety. Drink prices are pretty standard for San Francisco. Service seems to have gotten a lot better. I love that the bartenders remember me and know what I drink.
The big downside to Mr. Tipple's is that, while it's a great place to catch live Jazz, it can be a difficult space to actually enjoy the music. The acoustics are bad, perhaps too many hard surfaces. Very few people are there to appreciate the musicians; on Friday and Saturday nights, you'll have a hard time hearing them over the din of the partying techies.
Friends took us here and let's just say we dont have places as cool as this at home. The vibes are great, the crowd is eclectic and friendly. Its hip and elegant enough to have a great date night out but casual enough that you wouldn't feel out of place if you just randomly stopped in. We went for some cocktails and they were great and quite stiff. The live music was such a treat and the whole slightly speakeasy vibe was so appealing. I'm so happy we had a chance to go and would recommend stopping in.
