Truly excellent meal. I thought I liked anchovies, but the ones here are exquisite beyond what I thought an anchovy could be. Fantastic oysters too. Always appreciate being able to eat things I don't normally experience like geoduck. Service was also very good!
Came here because of the great reviews--plus it was highly praised by Gary Danko!
The restaurant has a very charming feel to it. Small space but with a nice ambiance, it felt authentically Italian.
Overall, an interesting restaurant with good execution of techniques; however, flavor combinations sometimes fall short.
- The anchovies sampler plate consists of two types of anchovies with distinctive tastes - never thought anchovies could be so different which was eye-opening.
- The cucumber salad was too salty for my taste.
- The uni guacamole was completely overpowered by the passionfruit ponzu, little uni taste to speak of, and might actually be less enjoyable than a regular guacamole. Good if you like shrimp chips though.
- The mackerel was the best dish - the fish was tender, the apple adds much needed sweetness to even out the salty purple potatoes.
Really enjoyed my experience. Walking in felt very nostalgic to older restaurants in SF in the 90's but in the best way. Like an upscale bohemian vibe. The food was great and they have many options so if you're looking for a small bit or a large feast you're covered. Not over hyped just a great place with a very helpful staff.
Simple, sustainable, inventive! One of my new favorites! Thank you, thank you! The menu changes all the time, but definitely try their house cured anchovies from the Bay & make your own anchovy toast. & the desserts were perfect. Loved the flight of vermouth!
