Sapore Italiano Ristorante

Not from the area but needed to find a late seating for a group attending meetings in the area and wanted authentic Italian food. Thank you to Elio (owner) who was extremely accommodating when I called for a large group.
When we arrived he had already set a table for us upstairs in a separate area where we could unwind after a long day. Our server was extremely friendly and the food was amazing.

Restaurant had a nice atmosphere and plenty of delicious dishes to choose from that I had a hard time deciding and asked the waitress for a recommendation. I had the gnocchi gorgonzola, super delicious and gnocchi had a soft yet firm texture. I really enjoyed the sun-dried tomato and oil mixture that they give for the bread and the meatballs were delicious as well.

Though the city of Burlingame, CA is not the most exciting place in the world, it still has a certain charm of the the pre-"dot-net" days in the Bay area. Walking through the city streets is still manageable, without being trampled by a maddening crowd. It so happened that we had family visitors coming from out of town and we needed to accommodate them and their hungry kids on a moments notice. Since they voted for Italian food we explored the possibilities in town and discovered "Sapore". Though not a fancy restaurant, by any stretch of the imagination, we as well as our guests, found the place very accommodating for our relatively large party. The staff was very efficient and the food was genuinely good. If you look for a genuine Italian food and dread looking for expensive parking places in SF or other cities, this place would likely satisfy your taste buds. Weather your wallet would remain as fat as it was prior to visiting this restaurant, is up to your own assessment. I never look back after writing the check...

Real deal small Italian restaurant. Good, friendly service. Excellent food.

Good food choices. Accommodating to groups. I ordered salad with prawns and left hungry. Chicken would have been better - they give you more quantity. If you pay with cash, count it in front of the wait staff. Ours claimed to miss $25, but I knew we paid in full. I counted the cash twice. We yhrew in another $25 to keep things civil, but it ended unpleasant.
