THE MOST Excellent beautiful sushi in town, with reasonable price. I love this sushi guy
their tempura (it was not tempura) was really weird served with french fries (lol) when i went but now they look diffrent. sushi on a plastic plate tasted good though. definately a "Japanese restaurant"not run by Japanese.
It is inside Impressions
I'm debating whether to post this review or keep the gem in secret. I had sushi at some top reviewed restaurants in Bay Area and even in Tokyo, but no one could compare to Yume. Maboroshi is a legacy of Yume, the chef Tsuyoshi - san was the son of the owner/ main chef of Yume, and for the time I dined at Yume, 70% of the sushi was made by Tsuyoshi - san. So I have very high expectations in my first Maboroshi experience.
All I can say is, Tsuyoshi - san does carry the spirits of Yume and he adds his personal touch in a modern way. My experience is beyond satisfaction.
He knows how to bring the best flavor out from the fish - fresh is important but sometimes the best way to enjoy the fish is not serve it fresh. For example, he cured the scallop with kelp to remove the extra moisture and add a subtle elegant kelp flavor in it.
Will definitely come again and thanks to Tsuyoshi- san for letting us take pictures of the sushi :D
