Doppio Zero is legit. Their fame was well established in Mountain View but they've carried over that experience faithfully to San Carlos.
The atmosphere is clean and crisp, yet cozy and welcoming. Not snooty yet upscale enough.
DZ is all about the food. I benchmark every pizzeria with their Margherita and DZ ranks one of the best. Their Napoletana style pizza comes with a well chewy dough, even when thin. The tomato sauce is not watery which is very difficult to pull of on a thin crust Napoleatan Margherita. The cheese was perfect and the pie was fired up perfectly. A cheese pizza doesn't get much better. Absolutely top class and competes with the best.
Other foods like potato croquettes, salmon carpaccio, truffle fries, and squid ink pasta all were flavorful and wholesome. The taste profile of DZ is bold yet gentle. They aren't shy to make a statement but do it so amicably.
And finally you get this world class Italian dining at an absolutely reasonable price.
Doppio Zero is wonderful. Just make sure to have reservations. Stand-ins can be a long wait as the place is so popular.
Stopped in for a late lunch and got most of the place to ourselves. The pizza was great (great crust), pear salad was good, and potato croquettes were good. Overall, great service, ambience, and food. This would be a good place to come at night for dinner and drinks. It is a pretty large spot and I have seen several restaurants come and go here, so hopefully this one lasts. Definitely heading back here.
A friend and I came here for a weekday lunch and the ambiance was very calm and lovely. We split a small plate and a pasta. The Potato Croquettes were phenomenal and the Marechiaro was good. Don’t forget to ask for your complimentary bread basket!
Food was good. I was craving a mortadella pizza and they had it. It was just a little soft but the toppings made it so good.
WOW. Pleasantly surprised. What an addition to the San Carlos neighborhood.
First of all the atmosphere here is great, the design, color scheme, lighting, the plates, all is just beautifully done, worth it just to pop your head in at least for a drink.
Second, the food was incredible. The Branzino was well worth it, light and buttery in taste but big enough to make you feel satiated.
We also got the Delizia pasta which was vegetarian but had so much flavor still with the pesto and enough veggies in there to keep it interesting.
I loved the service, the bartender really knew what his stuff and everyone was pleasant and friendly but not over the top.
