The food version of roadside attractions such as 'World's largest ball of yarn'.
It's eclectic and different to be eating a bread bowl of pea soup cause how often do you do that... but then again, how often do you wake up thinking, "I NEED PEA SOUP NOW!"? And it's not that great of a bread bowl, nor is it any fancy form of pea soup. Still, staff is nice and the place itself feels old and rustic from a time when roadside stops like this were special.
Delicious food. A slight wait due to limited capacity in covid times. The pea soup is very tasty (very creamy, but you get things to put in the soup if you prefer a chunkier soup) and well priced since it's endless. Good portions for the price, and the burgers are a great option if you're not a soup person.
Pea Soup Andersen's is nostalgic for me. Every summer on the last day of school, my mom would pack the car and we would leave to spend a week in Solvang. We always had Andersen's the first night we were there. I continued the tradition with my own kids. From back then until now they have been the consistent wonderful soup I remember as a kid. The soup is vegetarian, full of flavor and filling. You can order all the fixin's with it, ham, bacon, cheese, green onion. They do have other offerings besides just soup, and when you arrive or leave they have a fun little gift area. Right now is outdoor dining due to Covid.
Not what it used to be. Faded glory. Still trying hard.
The food was great. Loved my pea soup as always. My hubby had the chicken pot pie which was delicious. Different than the usual restaurant pot pies.
My only complaint is about how we were greeted. We were driving from San Diego to Carmel, so we had been on the road for about 4 hours. We called ahead to make sure they were open and what time they closed. The girl said they closed at 7pm and had outdoor seating only. Perfect! We could be there by 630pm. When we walked in the guy said they closed early. When I told him we had called about 6pm and were told they were open he just shrugged it off, repeated they closed early then said I could check with the person outside. We went outside and there was no one coordinating seating but finally a waiter indicated we could choose a table. Outside the staff was friendship, efficient and attentive. Thank you!
