First timers so wanted to like it. We got the only pizza listed with meat in it (pancetta). I like hot foods and every bite was extremely spicey hot. Garlic? Not sure. The crust was so so.
I do so hope they make it.
My new favorite place to eat in Ojai - no hesitation. I love everything about this spot - from the bagels, slab slices, and sandwiches during the day (I dream of their lamb sando) to the amazing pies, sides, and desserts for dinner (there's a hole in my heart that only the return of their persimmon cake can fill, but the new pistachio rice pudding is divine). Their wine selection is also killer - so stoked to see a rotating variety of natural wines at an approachable pricepoint. I've also had nothing but great experiences with everyone who works there - they're always super friendly and make great food and wine recommendations when I can't make up my mind. And while this is kind of an annoying comparison - their food, to me, is reminiscent of Roberta's and Superiority Burger, while still being uniquely their own.
If Merry and Pippin came home to the Shire and started a restaurant, inspired by all the spices and flavors they had seen and tasted on their journeys across Middle Earth, and yet still somehow quintessentially "down home," it might look something like Pinyon.
Founded by a charming, young, local couple, this is true farm to table cuisine, with impeccable mastery of both baking and spices. Eating here feels like being served gourmet, multicultural food in your best friends' backyard. If those friends were hobbits.
Do yourself a favor and drop in!
What a unique and delicious experience at Pinyon. Non-pizza dishes were highly creative and made for a stellar start to the meal (seasonal pickled plate + Sicilian sashimi). The pizza (lambchetta) was perfect on all fronts, wonderfully savory and texturally fun. All the staff were super friendly. Can't wait to see this spot get some Michelin recognition down the road, it'd be well-earned!
A couple friends and I stopped by the other night. Great experience and very nice staff. Clean and inviting. Even the restroom decorations are super cool. I'm a local and would recommend
