Staff is very professional and the ambience is calm and very low noise level. You can actually talk to your dining companion. This Elk was absolutely amazing. Tender, so full of flavor. This is just 1/2 portion as I split it with my friend. Just amazing.

Spent a night at the Strater Hotel and dined-in at the Mahognany Grille - our second time dining here. Absolutely special. Pricy - oh yeah, but special. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. Our food was fresh, great tasting and very creative, especially the appetizer of Navajo Cornbread. Very unconventional as you can see in my pic, prepared with corn and topped with arugula. My wife had the salmon and I had the trout. My after dinner coffee was an unexpected delight - frothy, creamy and a good strong brew. Note that items are a la carte - no veggies or sides of any type come with your entree. If you want a side with your entree you have to order it separately. The salmon and trout for example, are served as single items.

My wife and I visit Mahogany Grill a few times a year, and it’s always been a great dining experience. This time, after the pandemic, the service and atmosphere are still great, but the food was not up to previous standards. Today, my wife wanted soup and salad – but today’s ONLY soup was Watermelon Gazpacho Soup; What is that? No thanks! So she ordered the Gorgonzola Salad and a side of “Loaded” Herbed Mashed Potatoes. I ordered the Calamari Appetizer and the Cioppino entree, both of which I’ve enjoyed before. Well, the “loaded” potatoes were mashed potatoes with scallions and herbs, and the “loaded” $2 extra was diced tomato, sprinkles of shredded cheese, and scallions – but my wife expected cheese, bacon and sour cream (our usual expectation of “loaded” potatoes). My calamari pieces were very rubbery – obviously grossly overcooked – the waitress didn’t charge me for them, with an apology that some of the cooking staff were new. My Cioppino was very tasty, but 2 clam and mussel shells had not opened – not something to be served at an upscale restaurant. Again, the waitress apologized. The wine list was very good, as usual. We shared a chocolate tart dessert, and we agreed that the chocolate filling was very good, but the tart shell tasted like a pre-frozen supermarket pastry shell. We are sorry the Mahogany Grill has suffered from the pandemic, but we encourage them to find more qualified chefs.

Looking for something different? This here is the place. There was stuff on the menu(I won’t lie) I had never heard of. Ended up getting the tequila shrimp pasta and it was amazing such a unique “zing” to it. The servers were friendly and attentive everything was just perfect will be here again in the nearer future.😊
