Citizen Chicken & Donuts

Came here on Monday night for dinner. I enjoyed the citizen chicken sandwich and thought the comeback sauce was very tasty, and my boyfriend enjoyed the four piece combo that he purchased. I also really enjoyed the Hartford Baking Co brioche bun. I chose the chocolate sprinkles donut and thought it was good, but artificial tasting. My boyfriend chose the chocolate raspberry donut which was much better, but a little light on the raspberry. I was impressed that the donut itself was very fresh despite it being dinner time. We also ordered a side of Mac and cheese and were a little surprised at how spicy it was. Overall, everything was good, but we had a small incident with the manager that we couldn’t help but feel tainted the experience.

Fried chicken is juicy and very flavourful, French fries, delicious! You still taste the potato, like you'd cook them at home. Mac and cheese, delicious, pasta cooked perfectly. Collard greens, fantastic! Bits of meat, nicely seasoned. We'll be back !! Give them a try!

Fast and friendly service, incredible food.

The food is always fresh and has a homemade taste to it. The chicken sandwich is loaded with fresh slaw, fried to a perfect crisp and juiciness, and topped with their house "Comeback sauce." Hands down, the best chicken sandwich in the area.

And them donuts... Soft and airy dough, covered with a sweet snap of glaze, its just perfect. Larger than your average donut, but worth every penny.

Citizen’s Chicken is a gem! I honestly did not expect it to be this good - it is the best fried chicken I’ve every had. Everything about it was perfect, the crunchy coat and seasoning was all spot on! The biggest surprised though was cauliflower sandwich. We ordered one to share for our family because the idea intrigued me - a chicken fried cauliflower sandwich served with house made pickles on a brioche bun with spicy mayo. I’d like to say the cauliflower was so good that I’d get it for my meal next time. But I’m not going to lie - anytime I’m near West Hartford, I’m getting the chicken - no disrespect to the cauliflower sandwich, which was excellent!

Overall very good. I got the 2 piece white meat meal with mashed potatoes. Chicken was 2 wings and a boneless breast. I would prefer a "crunchier" coating on the chicken, but enjoyed it. The mashed potatoes and gravy were great, might be too salty for some but I liked it. Also got a small side of collard greens which were also very good. The 2 piece meal and extra side with tax and tip came close to $20 which seemed a little pricey. But the quality and quantity were good.
