Just tried this place's soft opening last night and it was excellent. So excited to have a place like this in New Haven. I had the house made tofu, which was incredible. Also tried the Aji they had as a special and it was gorgeous, sashimi style with the full fish brought out. At the end, the chef even fried the bones for us as a snack. The miso cod teishoku was perfectly cooked with excellent miso flavor and they had some wonderful vegetable appetizers as well, including a peeled tomato in a beautiful slightly smoky vinaigrette. Absolutely planning on going back.
One of the best meals I’ve had in New Haven in my 8 years here. Every dish allowed the fresh ingredients to shine (amazing fish - other than Otaru haven’t had anything in close to it in the area), the staff were unbelievably warm and generous (we were there during the soft opening, so things were moving a little slowly), and the space is so cozy and well lit together. Can’t wait for the sake to start flowing too! Such a joy to have food that shows care, craft, and trust in good ingredients. Will be back very often!
the food here even better than some NYC top Japanese restaurants.
My new favorite Japanese spot in New Haven. It’s just opened but they are already bringing fresh, authentic, bold, and delicious dishes. New Haven is finally back on the map with excellent Japanese food.
The staff are also wonderful and their weekly special menus bring freshness and a reason to keep coming back to try new things again and again. Definitely worth a try!
**Finally.**
This is a Japanese-owned establishment that uses authentic techniques with an American flair. The chef and staff come from an impressive background and it shows: just about everything is made from scratch and far exceeds that of the quality of the diluted-down flavor profile one may find in the area/region. A restaurant like this is what raises the standard for other local spots to step up their game.
As a picky eater and a former server of Japanese cuisine, I am ecstatic that I stumbled across them during their soft opening (and on my birthday!). I don't mean to overhype or raise anyone's expectations too high but... I will let my snapshots speak for me. I look forward to the amazing things they will do.
Parking is available as metered across the street, or in the lot around the corner.

Thank you for the warm hospitality!~
