Stopped for ice cream with colleagues two weeks ago. It really hit the spot on a hot summer day and we liked sitting under the covered picnic area. If I am ever up that way again I'll be sure to stop for some "Play-dough" ice cream again.
Had a small Philly cheese steak. Delicious! Service was slow but te quality was there. Will definitely come back perhaps at a different time of day.
This place doesn't look like much from the outside just outside of Woodstock, Ct. They have a walk up order place with a picnic pavilion overlooking a large pond. They have several different dining areas inside the building. My sisters and I were on a genealogy tour of Woodstock as we are direct descendants of one of the original founders - Lt. Henry Bowen in 1686.
We took a chance on Sweet Evalina's as there are not many places to eat near Woodstock and what a pleasant surprise. Lots of good home cooked food with great service from no nonsense waitresses at very reasonable prices. One of the more interesting parts was selecting your own beverage from the large carryout beverage cooler and then she adds the beverage to your tab. Don't miss this place if are in Woodstock.
What a pleasant surprise! I am a foodie and I'm pretty picky because I've eaten some of the best foods at the best restaurants. I tried Evalinas for the first time today and the pizza AND the fish-n-chips we had may have been the best I've had in CT! I never would have expected either from a place that looks like a country farm stand. The service left a little to be desired but I will definitely be back for the food!
The owners took an old stand and turned it into a thriving restaurant. They serve one of the best overall pizzas in the area and there is a real homey feel to the place. I have never been disappointed here. The grinders ( subs) are well filled and tasty also. There are three different types of fries, fresh cut, curly and regular. They also serve beer and wine.
