The atmosphere and food we're wonderful. I got the onion tart and my mom got the escargot for appetizers. The onion tart was phenomenal and the salad it came with was wonderfully dressed. My mom likes the escargot but felt that it was a little too heavy on the bread crumbs. I got the lamb shank special and my mother got the trout and both were phenomenal. For dessert we had the floating islands and it couldn't have been a better end to a great meal. The staff was attentive but we never felt rushed, our dishes came out in a timely fashion and we had a wonderful time. We will definitely be returning.

So this was a bit of a surprise. I'm not typically one to like French food, and this place doesn't look like much from outside. However... Wow!

The food was delicious, and the quantities we're generous (for French food). Meaning that you probably aren't walking out with a take home bag, but you aren't looking at a plate of design instead of substance.

But the food is designed, and cooked and prepped with care. You can tell the sauces are simmered and reduced, and the meats are fall off the bone.

Wine pairings recommended were great and not too expensive.

If I ever have guests who want to eat French, or if I just want good food, I'm making a trip here.

To put it easily... Filomena is to Italian what Bistro Lepic is to French.

    Nice servers too!

Great cozy spot with intimate bar upstairs. The liver entree was cooked perfectly.

A real find, classic French food, no foam or kale or other trendy stuff. Just well prepared appropriately priced food with attentive helpful service. Wonderful reasonably priced wines. They even have splits. You can’t go wrong with calves liver, veal cheeks or lamb dishes. Other reviews I’ve read rave about other dishes. Desserts are insanely good. On another there are always customers speaking French as it is near the French embassy. Also appears in a number novels set in DC. We’ve eaten there at least three times and will be back for more.
