Bidwell is a hidden Gem tucked away in the new revamped Union Market. Think bar screen gone upscale! The food is tasty, the cocktails amazing and usually the service top notch. However.
The female wait person we had Saturday night seemed more concerned with 1st saying she was leaving at 7:30p (it was 6:30p) then realized the party was over 6 people, making sure i knew gratuity was being attached (I know, I told her that more people were going to be joining when I was seated) then staying until 10p to be sure to collect the gratuity attached to my large group (12) rather than providing Bidwell's usual top standard of friendly service. When late comers arrived and asked to create a separate tab to not mess up the bill, she told them it was NOT allowed. My nephew asked to order something else and told him, "it's late, aren't you done yet"?? But she came to be quietly and nicely asked me if it was OK to just have one check? I had no idea she was having all the side conversations until people at the table started sharing stories! By the time I paid the bill and she was gone, it was too late to bring all this up.
It was my birthday and I was happy to introduce the bulk of the party to this hidden foodie find. And overall the eveing was fun and good for me, my family and friends. But more than 1 person in my party had negative encounters with the woman providing us with table service. 4 out of five stars this trip.
I went to Bidwell on a field trip for my school and let you it was a great restaurant. Since it was a tour we got an entire tour. There was even a door garden which was truly exquisite. On top of that the food was truly delicious. But the thing that took the cake was the dessert (no pun intended.) But I would reccomend it to anyone who wants the vegetables their eating to be grown above their heads. I feel as though at Bidwell you truly know where the food comes from.
This is one of those places people forget is actually good. If you are in Union Market have a drink at Buffalo Bergen and then a nice meal at Bidwell. The fried deviled eggs and the shortrib are great. Have the ice cream sandwich for desert and you are set to go.
Great atmosphere. Great drinks. Great food. A little pricey but worth it for a night out. They stay open later than the rest of the market so you don't have to get there early if you don't want. Bartenders are great and know their drinks. Pizza will make you come back for more. They is a great happy hour with food and drinks. All and all you should check it out.
