So, I ordered three pollo (chicken) tacos and the guy behind the counter asked me if I wanted to try a couple different types. I said "what do you recommend"? He said well chickens boring I can do better. So I let him pick.
I can't tell you exactly what he gave me but I can say it was fantastic. I can see why people say this is like a food truck, but inside. Real good stuff!
Not much seating but still a great place to get authentic Mexican food.
Tacos El Chilango has the makings of all my favorite taco places: unassuming, cheap, and simple. They don't try to do anything revolutionary, but they make a damn fine taco on the east coast and that is a hard thing to find.
Outrageously good food. The tacos are technically on the smaller side, but you'll get three. They'll have quality filling and the sauces pay great compliment to the meal.
Tacos El Chilango is a small place for simple but tasty tacos. Beyond a range of four meat-based and four vegetarian options, the menu is spartan, including store-bought chips with homemade guacamole and two types of homemade salsa. The best taco on the menu is with chorizo, and the best vegetarian option is with avocado and cheese (mushroom and cheese a close second). All served in double-wrapper corn tortillas. Beer and margaritas are on the menu, too.
5 stars all around!! Great food, friendly & welcoming staff and a fun atmosphere. The environment will have you thinking you speak Spanish while you watch the new and listen to the music while eating. Some even start dancing in their seats????. 1 of 2 hidden gems at 12th and T st. NW.
