Georgetown’s finest if you appreciate classic all American cuisine. An understated refinement that doesn’t try to be anything other that what it is - pure class. Towards the entrance of the building, if one is so lucky, one can find Bob in quite possibly the most intimate bar in all of DC. Bob in my opinion is a genuine asset to 1789!
Not too many establishments left of this kind. For that reason, and many others, I encourage everyone to experience it for themselves.
Good food, good service. Only complaint was the special request response- I asked for a specific bottle of wine, and they didn't have it (not a huge problem) but also didn't bother to communicate that they didn't have it. When I asked about it after arriving, the manager, Tim, was dismissive. Well, fine. It's only my wife's birthday, right?
This is fine for anything that doesn't require attention to detail.
I would recommend this place to everyone. Great atmosphere and service. I went with my wife for our anniversary. Everyone was telling us "Happy Anniversary".
I'm glad I went but won't be going back. The food and service were good but nothing particularly unique. Pictures online suggest the restaurant has an elegant, historical vibe. In reality it's far more tacky than elegant. My date and I were seated at a corner table that was quiet and quaint for a few minutes while the restaurant was empty. The next couple that came in was seated right next to us, which seemed to surprise them as much as us. One positive is free valet parking. I'm certain this restaurant appeals to plenty of people. I'm not one. Two entrees and a tip ran about $120, which seems about right. The food itself was a B or B+ but I tend to remember the overall experience of a restaurant not just the food. In this case the overall experience was a C- or C at best.
