We dined at the Penn Branch, DC location. Our server, Dee was excellent, food was delicious and the manager even came over to greet us. Staff was gracious enough to take our group photo too. We are sandbox friends celebrating over 50 years of friendship and wanted to support a Black owned restaurant. We’ll definitely be back again. My sweet potato 🍠 waffle 🧇 and fried chicken 🍗 was scrumptious, along with my fried green tomatoes starter. Others enjoyed the shrimp 🍤 and grits and grilled oysters 🦪 among many other entrees. For dessert, I recommend the banana or bread pudding or peach 🍑 cobbler. Cocktails were tasty too!

When I say RUN...I mean get there immediately!!! The food she drinks were AMAZING!!! Food comes out fresh and hot so give them some time. The LAMB CHOPS WERE COOKED CORRECTLY!!! I like mine medium and the sauce was great, I asked for sauce on the side. I went 2 days in a row because the food and service was great. My male bar tender/server named Che-Kay ( sorry if I messed up his name) was very professional. He made some great drinks.

So I’m a food critic and I travel all over to give honest feedback on different restaurants. This evening I popped at Ms Toya to see what the hype is about. Starting from the beginning… the young man that was seating customers was very nice and respectful. Getting seated at a table was at least a 30-40 minute wait… too long for me! He gave me the option of sitting at the bar or at the counter. I chose the counter just to see everything is operating. Everyone behind the counter and the guy sitting near rolling utensils were extremely nice and attentive!!! I ordered my food… seafood egg rolls( the wrapper was too thick, which took away from the seafood), the garlic wings were really good ( Parmesan sauce had a little too of vinegar), my pork chop meal was good but the WILD FACTOR was the deviled eggs with oxtail meat on top….. Jesusssss!!!! Amazing!!!!! A basic deviled egg but the flavors from the meat gave it the flavor that had shaking my head in amazement that it was so good!!!! I can’t tell how great of an experience it was to visit this restaurant!

This restaurant would have gotten a 10/10 but the floors knocked the points down….they're concrete floors and they were very slippery. I’m not sure if the wetness was coming from it being rather warm in the restaurant or if that’s a normal thing. A true hazard for everyone in the establishment!! I mentioned it to one of the employees so that he could note it to be handled promptly to avoid any further issues.

To sum it up in a nutshell…. I would visit that restaurant again again and again!! Their good definitely outweighs the small piece of bad!!!
Kudos👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽I would highly recommend this establishment!!
    Very Delicious!!

I’ve dined at Miss Toya’s Southern Kitchen twice now and I love it. The menu is not super extensive, yet it offers great options. The smothered pork chops are scrumptious; that gravy, YUMMY. 😋 The cabbage, flavorful, the mac & cheese is good, but could be stepped up a notch or two. The catfish is amazing and the sweet potatoes are very delicious. The lamb chops were very salty, but hopefully just a one off. The wings with mambo sauce…the wings were good, but the sauce didn’t quite hit the mambo mark. The bread pudding leaves a bit to be desired. The first visit, the server could’ve been more attentive. The second visit, the server was very attentive. The parking lot is small, tight and fills quickly. However, there is additional parking behind the restaurant. This place is jumping on the weekends, so make a reservation. The bar seems to attract a nice crowd even midday during the week.
