I was excited to try St James with a friend based on a recommendation. The staff were very nice and welcoming and recommended a few things for us to try.
We got the jerk wings, beef roti wrap ( I don't recall the name) and my friend got the oxtails bowl.
The jerk wings were okay but more oven baked than grilled or anything else, it was slightly disappointing.
The roti wrap was tasty enough but I feel like it could have been better seasoned as well. However it's a good sized meal.
My friend enjoyed her oxtails meal but also had the same comment on flavor.
Overall I may go back to try other things on the menu. It's worth checking out if you are in the area.
The food tasted amazing. We had the curried beef, oxtail and macaroni! All dishes were splendid. However, they need to add more than two pieces of oxtail to the plate for the price. Overall, highly recommend!
St James is the place to be… good vibes… great service AND amazing food. The bake and fish was full of flavor and the portion was perfect! We also had the brisket platter - the beef was tender and the macaroni pie and plantains were authentic and ooo soooo good.
The rum cake and molten cake are to die for… portion was small BUT was decadent!
We had the sorrel margarita …. Let’s just say I wish I knew the recipe!
We will DEFINITELY be back for great tasting Caribbean cuisine in a great sit down setting!
The service is excellent, especially the bartender. He personally came over to discuss a new wine he was testing and seeking advice on.
All the good is excellent. The wings were toward the top of the list, as was the shrimp. The ox tail was good, but not my cup of tea, only because of the amount of fat. I'd return.
The service at this restaurant is exceptional, from the moment you walk in to the very end. The staff goes above and beyond to ensure that their customers are taken care of, earning a solid 10/10 rating with service. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with soft lighting and a simple yet classy interior design spread out over two levels.
We tried a variety of cocktails and starters, including cassava fritters, pork paw, and jerk wings - my personal favorite. Other starters such as Aloo and Channa Pies and Callaloo soup were also delicious. For my entree, I opted for the oxtail with coconut rice and plantains, although it was tasty, I have had better oxtail elsewhere and found the flavor to be a bit underwhelming.
Overall, I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try as the service and ambiance alone make it worth the visit.
