Yooooo! Great spot for Saturday lunch. Their burgers are so good. If you love wine you'll love this place also. Will definitely go again.

Reminds me, in the right small ways, of pubs back in England where my dad's from, mixed with an American bar/restaurant. What I mean by that is that you have good beers on tap and a charming beer garden/patio and close cozy decor inside. But it's also solidly American--the burger is the perfect classic burger with no gimmicks. This place is a gem in the often chain-dominated land of Gainesville.

We had two great meals here and the place has a laid back vibe and good drink selection. It can be a little confusing to order, so I'll break it down for you-: 1. Order food at the front register, get a number, find a table, they'll bring it to you, 2. Order drinks at the bar, 3. Pay for food+drinks at the front register, 4. Pay for drinks only at the bar. There was a billing mix up on my receipt and I was charged for someone else's beverages and did not realize this until later in the day, but they were happy to refund me for the drinks I did not order. Really appreciate that as they were under no obligation to take my word for it. We'll be back!

I'm a vegetarian and was a little underwhelmed with their BBQ Mushroom sandwich. They attempted to do a decent job with the presentation of the food, but at it's core it was a bun with mushrooms sauteed in BBQ sauce. Maybe other vegetarian items are more worthwhile.

Tonight I had the red fish small plate, stated a salad, dill fries AND the house cheese plate. I ATE IT ALL, every last drop. I can be a super picky eater and often don't eat much at all. Public and general is my all-time favorite restaurant and I've absolutely never been disappointed and I've ordered all kinds of dishes and you really can't go wrong. You do need to be prepared to take care of yourself though, ordering your drinks at the bar and your food at the front chopping board... Not sure what to call it. The food is served to you and you do not need to bus your tables. I can be a little awkward when it gets really busy but you never have to wait for a waiter or waitress or your food. Everything comes super quickly and fresh. They make new menus every week they work with local farms and bakeries, the new selection of staff are really cute and polite and did I say that I just love this place? It's kid friendly, family-friendly , date friendly, great for just-drinks or for a A celebratory meal. You can even pick stuff to take out and buy wine and meat there as well. Super highly recommend... Tell your friends LOL
