Turnpike’s Rest Stop

Came by here for a happy hour beer and ordered some fries. They were fantastic. I'm excited to go back and try more food. All of the food coming out for other customers looked amazing & the portions were huge. Good looking menu! I liked that their sandwiches can be turned into a salad.

We've been here several times. Whenever I have a good experience at a restaurant, I like to wait until I've had a chance to go back a few more times to make sure the good experience wasn't just a one-off before I give them a rating and review.

Each time we come here, we either leave overfull or full with take home boxes. Their cheese sauce is divine and their portions are for the most part huge. You definitely get what you pay for here. The flavor is great, things are seasoned, they're not afraid of putting spicy peppers in there, it's just simple great tasting diner food.

The one exception, and the reason this is 4 stars instead of 5, is the potato salad. On one of my multiple visits here I decided to try the potato salad instead of the fries. The taste was great, but the quantity made me feel like I made a terrible choice. The side of potato salad came out in what felt like the tiniest serving cup I've ever seen, just wide enough to fit a fork into. It was a real feels-bad moment. If I had known the serving size was so small for the potato salad, I would have opted for something else.

All in all, this is one of my favorite places in town and we will be back again and again.

If you have not been here then you are missing out! The food is phenomenal and the service is even better. This is a true mom and pop restaurant that just makes truly great food. I always describe it as “how I would make it at home” style. Everything is homemade (even the dressings/sauces!) and you can taste the quality and care that they put into each item. If you can take advantage of the weekly specials then it’s really a steal, but even menu prices are extremely fair for what you get. Also, you HAVE to try the unique cakes that they have. There always seems to be a new flavor. I cannot rave about this place enough. It’s a real local eatery that everybody has to visit.

Went here recently about 2pm mid week to try them out. Very clean and neat. Bigger inside than it seemed from outside. Server very friendly and explained how sandwich sizes and salads work. Tons of hotdog choices too. I had a good Reuben that was perfect size in smaller portion. Wife got salad version of sandwich and took 1/2 home for another meal. Glad it is within a mile of home. Walking distance on a nice day. Next time I will order a large and take 1/2 home or just split one large item with wife would be perfect. Great local pub. Love all the choices.

We moved here from a North West suburb of Chicago & we had their buy one burger & get one 1/2 off and it was the BEST BURGER We have had since moving here!! It brings you back home it's even BETTER then Chicago's Burger's!! BEST PLACE WE HAVE FOUND SINCE WE MOVED HERE IN SEPT!! WE will be BACK!!
