“I hate to give local spots anything but 5 stars. It's hard to run a business, especially a lunch place, and the last thing these proprietors need are local guides giving them bad ratings. The sole reason I am giving the Mac Shack 4-stars instead of my usual 5 is because of $$. The crew of young staff were friendly enough and my 'Fire Station Dalmation' lunch was hefty and tasty. As pleasant as all that was, my lunch bill broke down like this: $12 for lunch, another $2 for a can of coke, plus tax, plus tip. It was the first $20 lunch I have had in years which means it will be a few years before I forget all this and return to the Mac Shack for some comfort food schtick. The portions were good and tasty enough, it just wasn't a $20 lunch. (Also, what's with no kids menu? The Mac Shack is missing its key demographic.)”

If there is a food institution in Tallahassee, Shell Oyster Bar is it. It has been around for years and for damn good reason. Fresh is all you need to know. Every darn item on the menu is delicious 😋 👌🏼. There is nothing like gorging on freshly shucked oysters and fried shrimp 🍤. It just doesn't get any better, anywhere close. Another great feature is the BYOB policy. We roll in with a bottle of bubbles and a few beers, sit at the bar and just enjoy. The folks that run the joint are super hospitable. You cannot help but leave completely satisfied. Enjoy!”

“Delicious little shrimp pita pocket, with a great homemade sauce of some sort. I wish they had a dedicated kids menu, but the lady was super nice to help us figure out something for our 5-year-old (6 shrimp add-on, and she gave us some extra fries in our regular meals). We were some of the only folks there on a Saturday night, but a few more trickled in. They also fry the shrimp fresh upon order, so that was a huge plus. I'd definitely go back again for another pita pocket!”

“This is a build-your-own style restaurant rather than having a lot of prepared dishes. You can choose from various bowls, pitas or platters and create just the way you want with your choice of protein, toppings and sauces. Everything we tried was fresh and delicious. Great Greek/Mediterranean flavors and plenty of choices. I had a bowl and my daughter had a pita which is like a custom gyro. The staff was friendly and helpful in explaining all of the choices. We'll be back!”

“The food here is damn good. I recommend the griot (deep fried pork chunks) with onions. Double rice, regular plantains, double pikliz and an additional side of macaroni round out my order. The potato salad is another delicious side. Pricing is fair and varies by entree and sides. If they're busy it can be a wait but you can order ahead online. The food is always hot and fresh and 100% worth any waiting I've done. Definitely one of the tastiest Caribbean spots in Tallahassee, and possibly the only place offering Haitian food.”
