Authentic Puerto Rican Delights at Mofongo Restaurant - A Taste of the Island Right in Miami
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Mofongo Restaurant, and as a Puerto Rican food enthusiast, I must say it was a culinary journey worth sharing. When craving authentic Puerto Rican cuisine, it can be quite challenging to find a place that truly captures the flavors of the island. However, my search led me to Mofongo Restaurant, and I was not disappointed.
Upon arrival, I was greeted by a bustling restaurant, but the host was incredibly friendly and managed to find us a table outside after a short wait. It's worth noting that parking in the area can be a bit tricky, but Mofongo Restaurant offers valet service, which was convenient.
Now, let's talk about the food. Our appetizers arrived, starting with the alcapurrias, which were good but didn't leave a lasting impression. However, the guineitos en escabeche (pickled green bananas) were love at first bite. They were simply delicious, bursting with flavor.
And then came the star of the show: the mofongo with carne frita (fried pork). It truly embodied the authentic Puerto Rican touch. The seasoning was spot-on, and the fried pork was tender on the inside and crispy on the outside, making my mouth water with every bite. To complement the meal, I enjoyed a refreshing Malta India and an ice-cold Medalla beer, the perfect finishing touch.
The ambiance at Mofongo Restaurant is relaxed and exudes the vibrant vibes of Puerto Rico. It truly feels like you've been transported to the island, creating an immersive experience.
Although the alcapurrias didn't quite meet my expectations, the exceptional guineitos en escabeche and the mouthwatering mofongo with carne frita more than made up for it. If you're looking for a taste of authentic Puerto Rican cuisine, Mofongo Restaurant is a must-visit. From the warm hospitality to the incredible flavors, it's a culinary adventure you won't want to miss.
Great place, service and atmosphere! The food is with puertorican flavor 😋 and piña colada was really good too. When we finish and paid they gave us a shot of coquito and was delicious! Everything was great!
My dish (mofongo with spicy crab) was quite nice. Not great, but nice. The novelty played a part; I wouldn't order it a second time. Three plantains were good.
The pork in my friend's dish ("traditional plate") was stringy and chewy. And the side wasn't too good either.
The service was bad and slow, and they tried to get two tips off me: one that they added by default and they suggested me an additional one.
My food is the only thing that squeezes the third star, but two would be a more realistic score. Feel free to try other options, there are tons in the area.
Got there around 10:30 pm but there were to accommodate us even though they closed at 11. It was our first time there, food was amazing, drinks were too, service was great but a little bit slow at the beginning, would recommend this place 100%, try their coquito, it was perfect!
The food is phenomenal, atmosphere is lovely waitresses and waitors dressed in spanish folklore outfits. Came down from Ocala for a Sweet sixteen and decided to visit Little Havana and stumbled into the gem of a place. Will definitely be back when the restaurant moves over to its bigger place down the block.
