Spencer House Inn by Brham

My Wife and I stay at the Spencer house for our honeymoon 2 years ago at that time a nice breakfast was prepared and served to us by the owners in 2020.

Fast forward to July 2023 new owners of the Spencer house fall way short of the breakfast in the past.

All you get is eggs and that is all, but they want to go to their restaurant down the road where they can up charge you more.

I guess the 200 dollar plus room per night you paid isn’t enough. Very disappointing don’t see this place lasting long with new owners

Coffee machines had issues. K-cup lookalike machines either produced weak or strong coffee. We also needed toilet paper but had to wait a day. They have a list outside of each room for guests to request items (toilet paper, shampoo, towels, etc) but they never look at it! Every request was always followed by an excuse. No daily room service, we were there for three nights. Breakfast was always a chore to get service. The rooms were charming and accurately old style - a plus. We left just before noon on the last morning and asked for an extension of time but we're charged a late fee - unfair considering the service issues.

I noticed some less than great reviews before we stayed and realize now that they seem to have been directed at the previous owners. Under the new owner and management, this place is great. The staff was helpful and friendly. Everything is clean and well-kept. Definitely as nice as any other B&B we've stayed in, especially considering the age of the building. Every we were interested in was within walking distance. St. Mary's is a charming, quiet little coastal village. Good restaurants and little shops. My only recommendation would be to add some variety to the breakfast offerings, though everything served was good. Highly recommend if you're looking for a short, low-stress trip. Amelia Island/Fernandina Beach is an easy 45 minute drive away and was a nice excursion for the day
