Canoe

We had been trying to dine at Canoe for the past 2 years. Our spontaneous nature didn't really work with their often long wait-lists for reservations. Fortunately, we were lucky enough to score a table on the evening of our wedding anniversary and we weren't disappointed.

The wine list seemed endless with some surprisingly affordable options. The food was made and served with care and pride (warmly recommended the salmon appetizers smoked in-house). Last but not least, the riverside scenery will take your breath away !

This spot is definitely worth a booking one or two months in advance!

it was my first visit. not sure why it took so long...
had a great server - Patricia. she was very efficient and had a great sense of humor. nice atmosphere. lot too loud.
i got the monkfish. its wrapped in bacon and served with risotto with goat cheese.
was very good, but a bit rich...bacon and risotto AND cheese! was there any on my plate? no. and i cleaned it with some bread.
1 co-diner had the cod. looked great. nice and golden. she said it was very good. another one had the appetizer lump crab cake. said it was excellent.
had hummingbird cake and the chocolate, caramel thing. that was best. really best!! hummingbird cake was good, but chocolate was excellent.

The service is top notch, from the way they greet you by at the hostess desk (if you had a reservation) to the wait staff. I love the way they clean off the table between courses and bring fresh silverware.

The menu is...eclectic. It features a kangaroo appetizer. I have not been brave enough to try it, but the option keeps tempting me

And even if none of the above were done, two words... popcorn icecream.

Loved the food and enjoyed the stay and ambiance. We went to Canoe based on a recommendation. We had a late reservation at 10 pm. They close at 11 pm but we didn't leave until midnight. The server never rushed us and she was always cordial. She checked on us regularly. I love attentive and cordial servers. I ordered the fish in crawfish sauce. The server asked if I had allergies and I told her what it was. I'm glad she asked because the sauce had to be switched because I was allergic. I felt that was great on the restaurants part, to ensure the server check for allergies. I appreciated it and I will highly recommend eating there. I had a party of four and the food and checks were served correctly. The ambiance is upscale and it is a quiet place by the river. This is a great place for a date, a nice birthday dinner, or girl's night dinner for professionals.

So good! Mostly the location and the pecan sticky buns. Service was impeccable. Pacing was great and the food delicious. That said, we were there for Sunday Brunch and I opted for the salmon Benedict. Now I live a good Benedict and this one would have been great, but it came off too salty after the sweetness of the pastry basket. That basket though, wow, amazing, perfect pastries! And jams and maple butter, could come here just for that and a glass of fresh Squeezed OJ.

My son ordered the eggs bacon and French toast which usually comes with hash browns. He asked for extra bacon instead and I think they brought a whole pound of bacon. Wow.

Enjoy the view, but the patio is a bit hot when the weather is over 85. Fans don't cut it.

All in all, quite good and will be back for full menu.
