AMENDED as of June 15th 2019: I have spoken with the owner who was both attentive and apologetic for my experience with the independent security company in mid May who acted outside of their domain. While my experience was extremely upsetting, I appreciate the owner's willingness to make me feel welcomed and to assure me that it is neither Text's practice nor a part of their organizational culture to accuse or mistreat their patrons. ORIGINAL REVIEW:
I was referred to this place by a beloved Ethiopian friend. I am a professional and I volunteer in the community. Whenever I come to this place (twice a month, usually), I have 1 or 2 drinks and a mint hookah. The waitress is lovely and professional. But this past Friday night (May 17th, was one of the worst and most horrying nights of my life). I enjoyed my evening with a sparkling water and a mint hookah. I paid the automatic gratuity of 3+ bucks and a buck tax so my total was near 22 dollars. I tipped an additional 5 bucks, AND I gave the nice guy who refilled my hookah coals 5 dollars because his service was impeccable. Koki (I believe her name is), is the best server that place has. Warm, professional and attentive.

I paid in cash and left 45 minutes later. I drove half a mile up the street for gas only to have my car blocked in by a blue SUV...
I thought I was being robbed. A man with an assault rifle and dog got out and accused me of "running out on my bill." My friend saw me terrified and explaining I had paid in cash and didn't have my receipt. He attempted to mediate but the SWAT-like officers only postured and took their HANDCUFFS out. I managed to calm everyone down. I pumped my gas (bc I was on 'E') and drove back down to Text. The waitress who accused me only said it was a "mistake." She wouldn't look me in the eyes.

You see, two African American women jumped up behind me and ran out when I walked out. She pointed at my car parked in the front and I was chased down and had an assault rifle and DOG pulled out on me. I have never so much as had a speeding ticket.

I planned on having my PhD graduation after-party of 150+ at this place in September to support the Black-Brown community in Dekalb. But considering I come there regularly, tip 75%-100% on every bill AND still had this kind of vicious experience, I WILL NEVER BE BACK. I will also never recommend this place because they are apparently so preoccupied with saving 30 bucks that they don't consider the long-term consequences of their actions. I cried after this experience. I expect an apology since I never received one.

(REPLY TO THE REVIEW ABOUT MAY 17Th) Hey you guys how are you today this is one of the “SWAT LIKE” officers from the post about the 17th that whole review is a lie and that’s not how the situation went down...now yes we were misinformed about who walked out on the tab but when we stepped out of the car at quick trip to talk to this woman (it wasn’t 45 mins later) we where nothing but nice to this lady the guy that was with her was very under the influence and very irate which is understandable because a friend of his is being accused of something that she didn’t do but as I stated before we were nothing but nice to her and so was she towards us she calmed her friend down because yes we did pull our cuffs because he kept stepping towards me and my partner aggressively so to keep him from being a nuisance He was going to be detained we all drove back to the club and the situation was rectified and we apologized multiple times to this lady so for her to come and write this misleading review is unprofessional and down right wrong she completely lied through her teeth every one in that plaza knows we are the nicest guards out there and try our hardest not to be rough or undermine our patrons I just wanted to clean this review up that’s all text is amazing don’t let one lier keep you from having fun at an amazing establishment

Nice chill spot, great hookah, relaxed atmosphere!
