Phenomenal lunch. All the veggies and sides were delicious. The fried chicken was perfect. The peach cobbler...wow! Just be ready for a food induced coma when you leave!!!
A+ Always great food and a fun atmosphere.
The food was AMAZING. You basically have your choice of two dinners with all the fixings, but they're set out on the table. The day I went, they were serving fried chicken, boiled cabbage, Mac and cheese, potato salad, and buttermilk biscuits and baked ham, black-eyed peas, collard greens, green beans and corn pone. Sweet tea and ice water to drink. Banana pudding(!!!!!) for dessert. The fried chicken was crispy and flavorful throughout. All the sides were well cooked and flavorful. And, oh my goodness, that banana pudding. I've never tasted the like, and my Aunt makes a pretty great one. Even the sweet tea was perfectly sweetened. The setting may not be for everyone, but I enjoyed it. There's only about 4 long trestle style tables, so you're sitting with a bunch of strangers. But if you're like me, they're not strangers by the time you leave. $10 a plate, drink included, and unlimited refills. And worth every penny. Go check it out. You won't be disappointed.
Great food and great service. They could use more drink option. At this time we are only offered sweet tea or water. I was surprised when I asked for unsweetened tea that it was not available. The fried chicken was definitely the highlight of the meal. There was some hot banana casserole of some sort, not exactly sure what it was, but it was pretty good too. I would definitely come again, but I will bring my own Diet Coke.
Went to Owen's Boarding House SPECIFICALLY for their homemade banana pudding with meringue topping, only to find out that marshmallows were mixed in. It seems like they might have run out of meringue and thought that small marshmallows would substitute. Marshmallows are too sweet and not an appropriate topping for banana pudding. I hate that I went.
