Feels very authentic. If you want Japanese food, better to come here than a fusion place with a North American spin, which never ends up tasting as good.
This is one of the most authentic Japanese restaurants in America and what an amazing place for the price you pay. You will get incredibly rich and unique flavors, loads of sides dishes and authentic Japanese drinks for about $35 per person (full meal with many side dishes at around 25-30 and large beer at around $10). Our family of four ordered a lot and every items was delicious.
This is literally a hole in the wall restaurant but one you should not miss. I’ve traveled quite a bit around the world and I will not forget the meal I had here. I shall return!
Felt like a traditional sushi spot with the classic artfulness and freshness of the seafood. A lovely surprise was actually the housemade tofu that was amazingly sliced like noodles. Two-tiered chirashi was delicious and had a beautiful variety including some treasures like abalone and the uni (which I felt was worth the add-on price). Service however was a bit slow since the servers were occupied with a number of big parties, including private rooms. This wasn’t surprising, if not for the sushi chefs swiftly preparing food that waited on the servers for what seemed to be too long. Good value and quality overall.
The best sushi we could find in Honolulu, and in general the food is outstanding compare to other places. But be prepared to be very patient, the service is slow to say the least. Just accept that you will need 2 hours for a meal and you’ll really enjoy it. If you have time limits, then go elsewhere. Came here 2 days in a row, and it was the same both times. The food quality and taste was worth it for us, but wouldn’t ever wait this long back home for ANY food
This place has the feel of a hole in the wall neighborhood go to restaurant in japan. Friendly staff patiently answers questions, provides translations and makes recommendations. The food is great - fresh ingredients and tasty flavors. House made tofu is ???? Somewhat hidden entrance inside a hotel. They have a wall of sake bottles that customers have bought but can't finish in one sitting, so they store it there for next time.
